About The Event

Tired of the 'heartbreak of hail?', of racing home to cover your plants every time you see dark clouds in the sky, worried that your garden will become a casualty of our crazy Calgary weather? Having had the utterly helpless experience on numerous occasions of watching hail completely obliterate our thriving veggie gardens, and spending entire summers totally obsessed with  watching weather radar, we finally decided that enough was enough! We realized we were not enjoying our summers in the care-free fashion that we craved, so a number of years ago we got creative and came up with some fantastic solutions for protecting our crops. Our highly effective and inexpensive structures have liberated us from hail hell, and, in light of our recent hail events, we'd love to share our success strategies with you! Come on out to the Urban Farm Permaculture Project and we'll explore various methods that have proven their effectiveness and value over and over, even for golf-ball sized hail. We'll show you a few different options, from larger structures designed to protect taller crops, to smaller ones ideal for veggie beds. This workshop is guaranteed to help you breathe easier, enjoy your summer and pay waaaay less attention to that weather app! Registration is limited to enable safe social-distancing.
