Practiced, honored and documented by many ancient peoples, companion planting techniques have, through the ages, evolved as a useful tool for improving the health and vigor of one or more of the plant partners in a companion guild.  Long viewed as “unscientific bunkum”, companion planting is now gaining increasing credibility as plant researchers discover evidence of the intricate chemical and energetic relationships between various plant species as well as with soil microorganisms. Understanding these interesting and complimentary relationships and putting them to use in our own growing systems can help us support the growth, vitality and production of the various plant species that help support us.  Join us and Janet Melrose, Calgary’s Cottage Gardener, as we explore the fascinating world of companion planting, with some hands-on fun planting up our very own “Three Sister’s guild”!
